A Victorian Lit Fanart Round-Up, Part XII

Someone on Tumblr requested Van Helsing, Mina, and Lucy having tea together (even though the three of them are never together in canon, which is sad!). Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote Bram Stoker to say that he loved Dracula, especially these three characters, so this is in honor of ACD.

A Victorian Lit Fanart Round-Up, Part XI

Jonathan on his way to Castle Dracula, trying to figure out why the locals keep loading him down with wild rose, mountain ash, garlic blossoms, and crucifixes! (The locals try so hard to keep him safe from Dracula— it's really heartwarming.)

  I tried out a couple more colored pencil drawings, illustrating Jonathan Harker and Lucy Westenra of Dracula, who have a lot of parallels with each other in the story, down to ending up ensconced in vampire-repellent flowers (Jonathan in life, Lucy in death). Once again, colored pencils are tricky to work with because you can't erase any lines, but it was fun to illustrate the flowers, especially trying to convey the white/cream color of the mountain ash (which I think I accomplished better in Jonathan's portrait than Lucy's). It was a fun challenge!

A Victorian Lit Fanart Round-Up, Part X

Proposal #1: Dr. John Seward, who was so distracted he nearly sat on his hat.

 This week I illustrated one of the Dracula Daily entries, featuring the young socialite Lucy Westenra receiving three marriage proposals in one day! (I love this because the three suitors turn out to be best friends with both each other and Lucy, which is very sweet.) Drawing two people in a scene together is always challenging, but I was pretty happy with how these turned out, particularly the third one.

Victorian Lit Fanart Round-Up Part V

I'm long overdue for drawing The Picture of Dorian Gray fanart! Here are my preliminary character designs for Basil Hallward, Dorian Gray, and Lord Henry Wotton.

This week's fanart! With the above drawing, I'm trying out a new technique where I pick a celebrity as a drawing reference for each character, so that I can find photos in a variety of poses. It's helped out a lot with making the faces more realistic, so I'm interested to try more in the future.  (See others in the series here.)

More fanart from the past couple weeks! I got a new set of drawing pencils, so it's been fun to play around with the different thicknesses (my old drawing pencil had dwindled down to a two-inch-long nub). Most of these are from Dracula, although I began dabbling in some Frankenstein fanart, too (yes, that's technically Gothic, not Victorian, but shh.) (See more Victorian lit fanart here.)
