This Week (Pickle Pets and Whole Foods)

Cukes from my garden!

It’s been a pretty quiet week around here, which is good, because we’ve been busy lately! After a packed weekend, I’ve had time to regroup, work on house projects, read books, and learn more songs on the piano (working on Pinball Wizard right now).

Here are my latest fermented pet projects: I’m trying a stab at pickles again. I made them a couple years ago successfully, so hopefully these turn out well, too.

I’ve also pickled some of the banana peppers, both “refrigerator pickle” style, which is just soaked in vinegar, and actual fermented style. It’s exciting to be pickling my own garden produce!

First tomato of the year, too! It looks sad, but it was super
tasty— I used it to make tapenade for the first time.
Also, as of today I’ve decided that I’m going to start eating a cleaner diet again. Some bad habits have been creeping back into my diet (white flour, white sugar, processed food in general), and I want to return to a diet full of whole foods. I love my carbs, but whole-grain carbs make both me and my body happy! I figured posting about it would also motivate me to stick with it. (By the way, if you have any easy whole-foods vegetarian meals that you love to make, please send me the recipe— I’m always looking to expand my repertoire!)

And finally... Happy Birthday to my mom! Hope you have a lovely day and forgive me for totally forgetting that today was your birthday. ;)

Also, hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
